FAQ

How does Equation differ from other healthcare consulting firms?

Equation uses a scientific approach to improving physician economics. Free of bias and conjecture, Equation starts with the extraction of raw data directly from the client’s billing, general ledger and/or payroll systems. It cleans aggregates and converts the data into digestible information and answers pressing questions that impact decision making on the part of healthcare executives. Equation’s data-driven methodology is used and leveraged by seasoned operational consultants to pinpoint gaps and opportunities and implement solutions that improve practice performance.

Do you do hospital consulting?

Unlike other firms that spread their focuses across both hospital and physician economics, Equation is focused exclusively on physician matters. While many of our clients are hospital executives, they have recruited us to help them address pressing issues and challenges within their physician enterprises. That is where Equation’s expertise lies.

What type of experience does Equation possess?

Equation has helped hundreds of hospital, private and academic practices diagnose and treat their physician economic ailments. While many individuals on the Equation team possess more than 30 years of experience, the team’s strength lies in Equation’s proven scientific processes and proprietary data-driven methodologies.

Who are your clients?

Two thirds of Equation’s clients are hospital executives seeking help with their physician enterprises. The other third is comprised of administrators, managers and department chairs in academic and private practices.

Do you produce software products?

No. Equation products come in the form of pivots and reports that are built with proprietary methodologies.

Where are you located?

We are headquartered in Salt Lake City, UT. Our Research and Development Office is in Mountain Green, UT. We also have regional offices in Baton Rouge, LA, Los Angeles, CA and Nashville, TN.

How large is Equation?

Currently, Equation is staffed at 40-plus. However, the company is expanding rapidly as the market increasingly finds favor with Equation’s scientific approach to solving physician economics challenges. In 2009, the company acquired two separate firms. This year, it has expanded by establishing a regional presence in Los Angeles. The momentum is expected to continue.
